Welcome to My Practice
Dental fear is no joke. It can be hard enough to carve out the time to come see us without anxiety getting in the way too. Comfort is my top priority with every single patient — but I know some people need a little extra help to truly relax, and there is nothing wrong with that.
That's why I'm glad to offer a real range of sedation options: nitrous oxide, oral sedatives, and IV sedation. Tell me what you're worried about, and we'll find the approach that lets you get the care you need without the dread. I look forward to making your next visit a genuinely stress-free one.
Dental anxiety won't keep you from the healthy smile you deserve.
Anxiety Shouldn’t Be the Reason You Wait
A lot of people quietly put off dental care for years — not because they don’t want a healthy smile, but because the idea of the appointment is genuinely hard. If that’s you, you are far from alone, and there is nothing to be embarrassed about.
Here’s the part that matters: dental problems almost never improve on their own. A small issue today is usually a bigger, more involved, and more expensive one a year from now. The fear is understandable — but letting it run the schedule tends to cost more in the end.
The good news is that modern dentistry has a real spectrum of ways to take the edge off, and we offer the full range —
- Nitrous oxide when you just need to take it down a notch and be back to your day right after.
- Oral sedation when you want to feel genuinely settled and a step removed from it all.
- IV sedation when you’d rather drift through it entirely, with a dedicated anesthesiologist watching over you the whole time.
Tell me what you’re afraid of — that’s the only place we need to start. Call or click below, and let’s make the next visit the easy one.
Your Sedation Options, Explained
Nitrous oxide is a mild sedative breathed in through a small mask over your nose. It brings on an easy, pleasant sense of calm while you stay fully awake and able to respond.
It's an excellent fit for mild to moderate anxiety. One of its biggest advantages is how quickly it clears — the effects wear off within minutes of the mask coming off, so in most cases you can drive yourself and go straight back to your day.
Oral sedation uses a prescribed medication taken before your appointment to bring on a deeper, more settled state of relaxation. You'll be conscious, but calm and far less aware of the procedure.
It's well-suited to moderate or stronger anxiety. The effects linger for several hours, so plan to have a responsible adult drive you home and take the rest of the day easy.
Intravenous sedation produces the deepest level of relaxation we offer. Many patients drift in and out of a light sleep and remember little to nothing of the visit.
It's ideal for severe anxiety, a strong gag reflex, or longer and more complex treatment. A dental anesthesiologist administers and monitors it right here in our office, giving it their undivided attention while I handle your care — safe, convenient, and the same high standard every patient gets.
Because the effects last longer, you'll need a responsible adult to drive you home and stay with you during the initial recovery.
Yes — sedation is very safe when it's handled by trained professionals following rigorous protocols, which is exactly how we approach it, alongside the dental anesthesiologist we partner with for IV sedation.
Side effects are usually mild and short-lived — some drowsiness, grogginess, or a fuzzy memory of the appointment. Serious complications are extremely rare, and your vital signs are monitored throughout. We review your medical history carefully beforehand and walk through every consideration at your consultation.
Sedation helps a wide range of people, and it's especially worth asking about if you:
- Feel real anxiety or fear about dental visits
- Have a strong gag reflex
- Have a low pain threshold
- Need extensive, complex, or multiple procedures in one visit
- Have had a traumatic dental experience in the past
- Have special needs that make treatment difficult
We always do a thorough evaluation first to confirm sedation is a safe, appropriate choice for you specifically — it's a conversation, not a default.
Sedation Dentistry Frequently Asked Questions
It comes down to your level of anxiety, the procedure involved, your medical history, and your own preferences. As a rough guide: nitrous oxide suits mild to moderate anxiety, oral sedation handles moderate to strong anxiety, and IV sedation is best for severe anxiety or longer, more complex treatment.
You don't have to figure this out alone. At your consultation we'll talk through your concerns and your health history and recommend the option that fits you best.
Your vital signs — heart rate, blood pressure, and oxygen levels — are watched continuously throughout the procedure, and the sedation level is adjusted in real time as needed. For IV sedation, the dental anesthesiologist's sole job is exactly this. You're under the attentive care of trained professionals from start to finish.
For nitrous oxide, usually not — it clears within minutes and most patients drive themselves and return to their day. For oral and IV sedation, yes: please arrange for a responsible adult to drive you home and ideally stay with you for a few hours afterward, since the effects linger. We'll give you specific post-sedation instructions before you leave.
It depends on the type. Nitrous oxide wears off within minutes of the mask coming off. Oral sedatives can leave you drowsy for several hours. IV sedation can leave you groggy and a little disoriented for several hours, so give yourself the day to fully recover. We'll tell you exactly when it's safe to return to normal activities.
Sedation can be paired with a wide range of treatment — routine cleanings and exams, fillings, root canals, extractions, and more. It's especially valuable for anxious patients and for extensive or complex work. We'll match the right type of sedation to both your needs and the procedure.
Please tell us. We conduct a thorough review of your medical history at your consultation and factor any conditions into the plan, so we can recommend the safest, most appropriate option for you. Your health comes first, and we take every necessary precaution to accommodate your specific situation.
